Who is this Man? Part 4: A Revolution in Humanity

Luke 14:1-23

Worship: Sing or listen to the worship song: Mighty to Save by Laura Story

Welcome: When was a time when someone showed compassion?

Word: Read Luke 1:1-23

In this chapter is recorded Jesus’ interaction with the Pharisee’s. Why do you think that Jesus had difficult interactions with the religious people of the day?

In this passage Jesus’ compassion seems a little more abrasive than normal.  Do you think there is a place for us to have that kind of attitude?

In Jesus’ first interaction (v. 1-6), he is discussing issues of sabbath, healing and legalism? Why do you think they said nothing to Jesus’ questions? What was the point Jesus was trying to make?

In His second interaction (v. 7-11), He is talking about honour and jockeying for position.  What do you feel was Jesus’ lesson?

In His third interaction (v. 12-14) He confronts the exclusivity of the Pharisee’s.  How do we sometimes fall into this trap? How do we keep it from happening

In His last interaction (v. 15-23) Jesus talks about some of the lame excuses that we often use when it comes to serving God. What are some of excuses we use to justify us not serving God?  What do we learn about the heart of God in this last interaction?

What is one thing that you learned from this passage of scripture and how can you practically apply it in your life?

Witness:  Continue to pray for the people that you want to see come into a relationship with Christ. What are some practical ways that you can show the love of Christ to your family, coworkers and neighbours, particularly in light of the COVID 19 pandemic?

Pray for these people and each other.
